Take away Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot might well be the most influential folk artist EVER, and his songwriting is evidence of his generous work."Remastered", or the state of music being reconfined, is a process that involves deleting ANY hissing or echoes resulted from aged media. yeah, that's a term well-used for this excellent collection of Gordon Lightfoot's career. "Songbook". In this case, I believe they remastered his work from the original tapes, but I could be wrong. He was a Canadian folk artist with great talents in the big three: music, vocals, and lyrics.As far as what this collection actually contains, I will not spoil too much. However, it's basically this: 4 discs, ranging from the 60's to the 90's, fully remastered to give the audience what they want: good tunes and great stories. Nonetheless, the sounds are great, and the volume is at an even pace throughout the package.And the best part is yet to come: it includes ALL of Lightfoot's Top 40 Billboard Hit Singles. Therefore, this is a GREAT collection for casual fans and huge fanatics combined.

There are several gems here that you won't see anywhere else, but some of the greatest songs in the history of folk are in this beautiful set, as well. Now I wonder why I waited so long. I waited a long time before I purchased this box set, as I have all the available Lightfoot cd's. There is also a well-crafted booklet included, narrated by Lightfoot, that has many interesting stories behind the lyrics of these great songs. It is a masterful collection (at a very resonable price) by one of the greatest minds in folk music. Each of the four cd's represents a particular stage in Lightfoot's career, from the early days to more recent times, and what a long, wonderful career it has been. In short, if you're on the fence as I was, do yourself a favor and buy this collection. You will not be disappointed, even if you're not a Lightfoot fan.
You can't go wrong. Even with this set I still had to have the original albums that are out on CD now for the lost ones that didn't make it in this collection.
I love this collection. There is no way they could fit all the Lightfoot songs I like on four CDs I understand that, however the ones that are here are great.
Gords Gold finds him re-recording a lot of the early stuff, these are the originals for the most part. I have always been a Lightfoot fan since the very early 70's.
The sound is good and he sings the original version on 99% of the tunes here. ANYWAY what I am trying to say is, LOVE IT.
There is NO ONE like Gordon Lightfoot.
